Up until early September the Petronas Towers were the tallest buildings in the world. That distinction is now held by the recently opened Taipei 101 building in Taiwan. However, for the purists of the architecture field, antennas, flagpoles and the like are not to be counted when determining a buildings height. When you take off all extraneous objects, the tallest building in the world remains the Sears Tower in Chicago. Nevertheless the Petronas Towers are awesome!

Genghis Khan stormed through Bukhara in the time that was before. Legend has it he sacked the town, with the exception of the tower that is pictured to the right. Historians believe that at the time it was built, it was the tallest freestanding man-made structure in the world.
